Jazz Institute of Chicago

Mike Reed's People Places and Things Octet

Drummer Mike Reed’s  People, Places & Things Quartet focuses on music made in Chicago from the mid 1950’s through the mid 60’s. What started out as a reason to re-interpret these compositions with modern improvisational ideas, the group grew to create its own dynamic  voice.  Expanding to feature four legendary Chicago jazz figures of the 50’s and 60’s; trumpeter Art Hoyle, multi-instrumentalist Ira Sullivan and trombonist Julian Priester,  this concert features new music written for each of it’s featured guests as well as re-inventions of music they performed decades ago.  Rounding out the octet will be an impressive cast of the Chicago jazz and improvised music community, including alto saxophonist Greg Ward, Tim Haldeman on tenor saxophone, bassist Jason Roebke and trombonist Jeb Bishop.
