Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune previews our Sunday, August 23rd Chi Jazz El Train in his Tuesday column:
Duke Ellington famously advised his listeners to "Take the 'A' Train" whenever he played Billy Strayhorn's classic tune.
But the "A" train went "to Sugar Hill way up in Harlem," as the lyric goes, and that didn't do much for you if you lived in Chicago.
Come Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., however, a new Chi-Jazz El Train will swing around the Loop, rumble up the Purple Line to Evanston and then head back downtown -- with jazz musicians playing onboard all the while.
