Madlib's 'Shades of Blue' released in 2003 garnered rave reviews for presenting a one-two punch of hip-hop aesthetic and jazz tradition. The record featured re-workings of many jazz standards, some on which Madlib played instruments himself under one of his numerous pseudonyms. Though I appreciate jazz, I am more of a hip hop head and I dug the album to the bone gristle but I would like to know the perspective from the other side - what do jazz fiends think about this album?
