Straight out of Philadelphia, Joe Chambers - one of jazz's most extraordinary drummers - celebrates his sixty-sixth birthday today. His illustrious career has included collaborations with Bobby Hutcherson, Freddy Hubard, Charles Mingus, Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea, solid work that places him in the canon of the medium's most innovative artists. He has alos contributed to the universe's sound catalog as a composer scoring soundtracks for Spike Lee and composing for Blue Note. Personally, I believe his work far surpasses that of Buddy Rich, Max Roach and Art Blakey combined. I'd like to hear someone else's word on this man.
