Ernest Dawkins Interview

Get Flashto see this player.

This interview with Saxophonist/Composer Ernest Dawkins covers his involvement with South African musicians such as Louis Moholo and Zim Ngqawana, performing Thursday, August 17 for Durban-Chicago along with New Horizons and The Mandingo Griot Society.

The mutual influences of urban rhythms of Chicago and Durban are apparent in the bands of both Chicago saxophonist Ernest Dawkins and South African reedist Zim Ngqawana. The two met in Chicago in 1999 and Dawkins' subsequent travels to South Africa led to collaborations with Zim Ngqawana’s ensemble. This concert will premiere new compositions as well as feature legendary South African drummer Louis Moholo, who is founder of the Dedication Orchestra.
