About Noteworthy Jazz Ensemble
Quite possibly the only band of its kind in the country, Noteworthy is an ensemble of Chicago Public School music teachers, many of whom are also the jazz band directors at their schools. The idea to form a band grew out of the Jazz Institute of Chicago’s Jazz Links Teachers Advisory Council. From the members’ desire to create an opportunity to “practice what they teach,” the band grew quickly from an octet to a burgeoning big band. The ensemble members see the establishment of Noteworthy as a model for music teachers across the country, especially as a tool to increase and build awareness and advocacy for arts education.
