This summer the Jazz Insitute of Chicago has teamed up with the Chicago Park District to start a new program employing and educating a group of young jazz musicians for the summer. During a six week intensive program, this select group of 10 musicians will work with a rotating cast of local jazz all-stars who will educate them and work with them for a week each. At the end of each week they will perform at a different park in the city with their guest artist as a conductor.
Tonight’s concert will feature Robert “Baabe” Irving III as guest conductor. Mr. Irving is best known for his long association with Miles Davis, and his musical prowess as a pianist and composer is respected and venerated throughout the jazz community.
